What's new?
Submitted by dave on Tue, 06/17/2008 - 6:30pmSo what's new? Nothing much, getting used to baby, and that's a hard one. Not that I would give him up for the world, but he's definitely needy. I feel like I've really been neglecting contacting people and whatnot but it's hard when you have a newborn, work and life in the way of everything. So if I haven't e-mailed in a while or given you a call it's not hate in my heart, just missing the free time I had before.
Other than that not much is going on. I have a few more pictures in Sean's Gallery but not a lot of recent ones yet (bad daddy). I hope to have some more this weekend, really all I've added to Sean's pictures now are the ones I've received from Ben and Mom and Dad from around his birth. More to come I promise.
Baby Sean has arrived!
Submitted by dave on Sun, 06/01/2008 - 3:09pmSean Matthew Chandler was born on May, 23 at 4:38p MDT at Mountain View Medical Center in Las Cruces, NM. He weighed 6lbs and measured 18" tall. We'll keep news about him posted here of course and I have created a gallery for him that can be reached at http://azbay.net/gallery/v/people/sean. Right now there's only one sub gallery but there's more to come surely. Thanks for all the help and gifts! Hope we can get out to see everyone soon. Some good news for once…
Submitted by dave on Fri, 04/04/2008 - 9:01pm…amid all our previous experiences with the doctors, yesterday we received the news that the nuchal fold thickening that they had noticed in two previous ultrasounds was in fact normal. This, for us, a huge relief. God willing the supposed issue they found with the baby's heart (more on this later) isn't going to be anything either.
One more ultrasound…
Submitted by dave on Mon, 03/31/2008 - 6:10pm…well Jen and I are going in on April 3 for the final ultrasound for the baby. At this point I'm really wondering why they're having us do so many. The excuse this time is a followup on our Level 2 ultrasound that we did a couple weeks ago to take one more look at the heart. I am starting to question the need for all these looks, and have come to the conclusion that because the people doing the work know our insurance will cover every penny of the cost of prenatal care, well why not help pay for their pretty new machine that does 3D ultrasounds, blah, blah.
First try with flickr.com integration…
Submitted by dave on Fri, 02/29/2008 - 7:57pm…ok, so ecto 3 has integration with flikr.com. What does this mean? It means that I should be able to include photo's in my posts like I've wanted to for sooooo long. So without adieu, here's my son, giving us the bird in the womb (yes, we now know he's a Chandler!).
That tiny little arm is indeed in a tiny fist with "The Finger" up. Now how's that for learning quick how to let people know you're not photo ready?
IT'S A BOY!!!
Submitted by dave on Fri, 01/25/2008 - 9:28pmAs a woefully piss poor webmaster, and blogger, I haven't yet posted the wonderful news that we're expecting. We've known for a while (since back in October actually) and both of us are really excited to say the least. Anyway, on Thursday, January 24th we went in for an ultrasound to check on the little fritter, very healthy, very sleepy and stuborn (definitely takes after Mom ;-), but after a little poking and prodding, squirming just right for us to tell it's a boy! So little Sean Matthew Chandler is doing well, at about 6.5" and around a pound, he's wiggling and giving mom a few little flutters, likes to sleep as evidenced by the ultrasound. They didn't get good enough looks at his heart and face so we'll go back in a month albeit a little later in the day so the little guy can wake up, to see some more views. Hopefully I can scan a few of the images and start a little gallery for him soon!

Gallery issues, but finally back online…
Submitted by dave on Fri, 01/25/2008 - 9:11pm…so the gallery was down, as I'm sure some of you noticed. It's been that way for, um, a few months I think? Anyway, it wasn't really down per se, but when people would try to access it, they would be re-directed to Gallery's upgrade page. So what was the deal?
Virtual worlds, what will they really mean?
Submitted by dave on Fri, 04/07/2006 - 5:00amIn the guise of pulling closer to one another, or pulling together in a virtual way, we are separating ourselves in a physical way. It really begs the question; what are our children going to be like? Growing up in virtual worlds, like MMORPG (massive multiplayer online role-playing game) where you can create yourself as you see yourself and live out a virtual life; to MySpace where you connect with friends in an online environment, similar to an MMORPG in that you can create your persona, and I find that when you have the disconnect from the physical, people are radically different than when they are in person. It's really almost a scary thought, as technology grows and makes a persons life easier, does it really make it harder by separating us from each other?
It's almost a scary thought really.
My thoughts, MySpace...
Submitted by dave on Fri, 04/07/2006 - 4:58amWell, I finally joined MySpace after several people have asked my "Why aren't you there?", including Jenny. For those who don't know, MySpace is a virtual gathering place where you can network with other people. I must say that I have several opinions of the site, good and bad even with my relatively short experience with it.
First, it does allow you to easily connect with friends that maybe you see now and then or even ones you talk to all the time. And I do like this aspect of the site. It's nice to search and find someone who I haven't seen or talked to in years that I really would have like to keep up with but we just fell out of touch. It allows you to find these people and look at their site, and you can then add them as a friend, or send MySpace e-mail to them. Nice, and fun.
The downsides are that it really doesn't take advantage of all these other technologies that are around that I've been using for years like iChat or MSN Messenger (or any IM for that matter) as well as e-mail, and websites or blogs. I have spent a lot of time getting my e-mail setup, as well as my blogs, why now do I have to setup another one on another site? I guess it really goes into the geek factor that it takes to setup your own blog, figure out how to use IM, etc. So I guess I find MySpace kinda cheesy in that regard. It really is for computer illiterates who don't know that much about setting up blogs (even though it's a relatively simple process if you find the right site). I wish there was an easy way to have people you connect with on MySpace go to your personal blog, send messages to my personal e-mail and IM me on my chat programs, which are all better IMHO than MySpace's equivalents.
